Laminate vs Vinyl Flooring

Think about your home. What is one thing that you touch every day inside your home? The floor is you pick is very important. There are over 10 types of floors to pick from. For todays blog, I will be talking about Laminate vs Vinyl.

Cost of laminate is greater then the cost of vinyl flooring. Below I have links to Home Depot, to see what price they have both. I think that laminate flooring is better then vinyl. That is not to say that vinyl isn’t a good for you. One thing I have found out over time is that their is a market for everyone and everything.

Both the materials come in a wide range of thickness. Vinyl flooring can range from 1.5mm to 5mm in thickness. Laminate flooring ranges from 6mm to 12mm, making them thicker than the vinyl flooring. Laminate feels more like a piece of wood. Vinyl feels like a man made material.

Vinyl is also 100% water proof. This is great for bathrooms. This is always great for rental homes. Where you are not looking to re sell your home and want to have an easy to take care of floor. People that have pets will also love the fact that vinyl flooring is waterproof. While laminate flooring has come a long way in its water-resistant capabilities, it still cannot tolerate standing pools of water. Unlike vinyl, laminate’s water resistance works from top to bottom rather than bottom to top. If you have moisture issues with your subfloor, you’ll still need a vapor barrier.

It will cost you and take more work to lay laminate flooring. Most people are able to do both laminate and vinyl flooring without the help of the pros. You will need tools to pay laminate and to make the cuts. Vinyl you should have the tools to do the pre work and to lay it down.
